Let's Talk Physics

A stochasticly updated blog about interesting topics in Physics & Astronomy

Thursday Update

Hey everyone.

Sadly, I won’t have a proper blog post today – I had 2 assignments due today, 1 tomorrow and a project proposal I need to have ready by Sunday evening. Instead, I’m going to link to 3 pieces of news that I’ll be talking about the in the weeks to come.

  1. Comet Panstarrs is visible in the Northern Hemisphere just after sunset – information on how to see it here http://www.space.com/20091-comet-pan-starrs-night-sky-stargazing-tips.html
  2. The Herschel Telescope is about to run out of superfluid Helium, meaning it’s about to finish its 4 year job. http://www.scienceworldreport.com/articles/5389/20130306/infrared-space-telescope-herschel-runs-out-coolant.htm
  3. New observations have resulted to a refinement of the distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud and is helping to refine the Hubble Constant http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v495/n7439/full/nature11878.html

More on Sunday!

About irishphysicist

I'm a PhD student with the Departments of Physics in University College Cork, Ireland and University of Notre Dame, Indiana. I want to try and bring astrophysics to the public, and also would like world domination. But that's a story for another day.
